Food grade propylene glycol (according to the international classification - E1520) is used as a solvent and preservative for products. Animal feed, the production of tobacco products and liquids for steam generators, the production of cosmetics and personal care products are several other areas of use of 1,2-propanediol. One of the key properties of glycol - increasing and decreasing the temperature of liquids - has found application in the production of anti-icing fluids for aircraft, automotive antifreeze, coolants for engineering systems and climate control equipment. The low toxicity of the substance allows it to be used in open-circuit heating systems, in facilities with increased environmental safety requirements.
